BT has confirmed plans to launch a new Pay Per View sports channel called BT Sport Box Office on its own BT TV platform and Sky “later this year.”
While the broadcaster has to yet to confirm fixtures for the channel, it’s likely to include major boxing events through BT’s existing tie-up with Frank Warren who last week added heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to his stable of fighters.
It’s also possible that some UFC events could also feature on the channel, with BT currently holding exclusive UK rights to the competition.
Plans for the channel, which will battle against ITV Box Office and Sky’s Pay Per View service for content and viewers, were confirmed on BT’s website.
It’s unknown whether BT will offer the channel to rivals Virgin Media to which it wholesales its linear sports channels or whether the service will be available to TalkTalk TV homes.
