ITV announces Titanic cast

ITV has announced that Linus Roache, Geraldine Somerville, Celia Imrie and Toby Jones are to head the cast of its upcoming Titanic drama which is being penned by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.

Filming for the four part drama gets underway in Hungary later this month with transmission scheduled for next year’s 100th Anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking.

The ensemble cast also includes David Calder, Ruth Bradley, James Wilby, Stephen Cambell Moore, Noah Reid,Stephen Waddington, Lyndsey Marshal, Mark Lewis Jones, Ruth Bradley, Antonio Margo, Dragos Bucur, and Peter McDonald.

Touted as focussing “on different characters ranging from steerage passengers to upper class guests”, Titanic has been created by Nigel Stafford Clark with Fellowes providing the scripts.

Stafford said there was “a lasting fascination with the Titanic’s one and only voyage, and never more so than in the year of its hundredth anniversary.

“We will tell the story in a way that is bold, fresh and gripping, with all the human detail that television does so well. We hope it will be a fitting tribute to the events of that night.”

Laura Mackie, Director of ITV Drama said, Fellowes had delivered “another compellingly written and ambitious drama for ITV1” which she said “promises to be the must-see original drama for this landmark anniversary.”
