UK Star Trek fans will get to see the eagerly-awaited Star Trek Into Darkness one week earlier than expected.

Paramount Pictures have announced the film’s release date has been brought forward to May 9th for all formats, including IMAX 3D, 3D and 2D cinemas.

The film stars Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldaña as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr McCoy, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, John Co, as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve as Dr. Carol Marcus.

According to the film’s synopsis:

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

“With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.

“As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

We’ve already seen the film’s first 10 minutes and were hugely impressed with what Director J.J. Abrams has in store for audiences.

Noel Clarke, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Joseph Gatt, Nazneen Contractor, Anjini Taneja Azhar[ and Nolan North also star.
