US ebook sales up by 115%

January ebook sales in the US rose by more than 115 percent compared to the same month last year according to the Association of American Publishers.

The trade body says the value of sales increased to $69.9 million compared to $32.4 million in January 2010. Hardback sales fell by over $5m in the period to $49.1m while sales of paperback books fell by 30%.

The twelve month period saw the launch of Apple’s iPad which offers a number of rebook reading apps and the launch of a new Kindle model from Amazon.
