BT to broadcast world’s first ever live Ultra High Definition boxing contest

BT Sport will score a boxing world first this weekend when it broadcasts the first ever bout to be shown in Ultra High Definition.

The channel is marking its first live boxing broadcast with two World Championship fights, the first between Liam Smith and current British Champion, Liam Williams, plus the headline contest between Terry Flanagan and Petr Petrov.

Taking place at the Manchester Arena, the night will also mark Nicola Adams’ professional debut who will take on Argentinian Virginia Carcamo over four two minute rounds.

Starting at 8:30pm on BT Sport 1 HD and BT Sport 4K UHD, coverage will be presented by Paul Dempsey who will be joined by former world champion, Richie Woodhall and Steve Bunce.

John Rawling will be commentating alongside Richie and Ronald McIntosh will be ringside as roving reporter.

Elsewhere on the undercard Lancastrian Jack Catterall will battle it out against his fellow Englishman Martin Gethin as they enter the ring for the WBO Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship.

The first fight of the night will see Daniel Dubois also make his professional debut when he takes on Marcus Kelly.

In the lead up to the fights, BT Sport will be showing a brand new preview show, No Filter Boxing, on its digital channels, giving fans “a fresh and intimate insight into a boxer’s preparations for fight night.”

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “I am really excited that after months of build-up BT Sport is counting down the days until the first fight night to be shown on the network and online.

“We have some great fights on the first night, with two world title fights, Nicola Adams debut and Daniel Dubois making his professional bow.”

“We have an exciting line-up of highly experienced and respected presenters, commentators and pundits who won’t miss a punch nor pull a punch in making sure we capture all the action and the stories of each and every fight.

“Innovation is at the forefront of everything we do at BT Sport and our new digital series ‘No filter Boxing’ will reach out and engage an entirely new boxing audience providing them with unique behind the scenes content in the build-up to all our big fights.”

The fights are the result of BT’s multi-year tie-up with boxing promoter Frank Warren and Boxnation which was announced last year.
