EE is adding 25 premium pay channel to its TV service, including Discovery Channel, British Eurosport, Cartoon Network, after striking a deal with content aggregator TVPlayer.
The channels will be offered in addition to the basic Freeview channels delivered to the box via the customer’s aerial and brings EE TV closer to services already offered by TalkTalk and BT which is in the process of buying EE.
That deal is widely expected to result in the eventual closing of the nascent service, with BT likely to focus on its existing YouView-based platform in which its already invested millions.
In the meantime EE TV customers can subscribe to TVPlayer for £4.99 per month.
Simeon Bird, Director of EE Broadband & TV said: “EE TV customers have always loved being able to pick and choose premium channels without the commitment of a fixed contract or a hefty monthly fee.
“These 25 new channels offer something for everyone, whether you like sport, documentaries, lifestyle shows, or want to keep the family entertained.
“It’s a great addition to EE TV’s On Demand section, which already contains a huge range of movies, entertainment, music, kids and international content.”
“TVPlayer welcomes the opportunity to bring our diverse range of premium channels onto EE TV – an exciting new addition to the mobile devices already supported” says Dan Finch, Commercial Director at Simplestream.
“Now consumers can watch fantastic programmes from Discovery Channel, British Eurosport, HISTORY, National Geographic and Sony Movie Channel straight into their living room without having to sign up to a long term contract and at an affordable price.”
