Virgin announces online movies on demand service

Virgin Media has announced plans for a new online movies service
Virgin Media has confirmed plans for a new online movies service which will offer “hundreds” of on demand titles from next month.

Launching May 6th, Virgin Media Online Movies will allow fill fans to stream movies directly to their computer. All rentals will offer unlimited views for 48 hours so viewers can pause, rewind and watch again.

Alex Green, executive director, commercial, TV and online, Virgin Media said: “Virgin Media already offers the UK’s leading movies on demand TV service and we wanted to bring the same high-quality, easy-to-use experience to film fans online. Virgin Media Online Movies will help visitors discover and enjoy a whole world of film and we’ll continue to develop the service by adding download functionality, even more titles and a great choice of HD films to the line-up.”

The service is being powered by Virgin Media’s existing movie on demand supplier, FilmFlex, which makes titles available to Virgin Media subscriber through their set top box.

Andrew Keyte, CEO of FilmFlex commented: “With this new service, we believe online movie rental will really come of age. We’re building on our experience with Virgin Media’s TV platform to develop a great online movie experience for all film fans and we’re pleased that so many of our content partners have seen the potential of the new Virgin Media branded movie service and are with us for launch.”

Virgin are keen to stress that the subscription service is available across the UK to anyone with an internet connection.
