Apple: Mountain Lion is “most successful” Mac OS X release ever

Apple says the latest version of its desktop operating system has been downloaded more than three million times since it was released last Wednesday.

Named Mountain Lion, the latest version of Mac OS X introduces a number of new features to Macs, many inspired by Apple’s iPad and iPhone.

The software is available is available through the Mac App Store as an upgrade to Lion or Snow Leopard users for just £13.99.

“Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
