Apple releases first Over The Air iOS update

Apple owners can now download updates straight to their devices
The latest update for Apple’s iOS software for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch has been released.

The software is the first to be made available by Apple as an Over The Air (OTA) update meaning users can download the software direct to their device via WiFi.

Previously users had to connect their device to a desktop or laptop computer to download and install the update.

Apple added OTA functionality to its devices as part of iOS, the newest version of iOS.

The new update fixes bugs within iOS5 including:

- Fixes bugs affecting battery life
- Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
- Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
- Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation

Other mobile operating systems including Google’s Android already support OTA updates.
