BBC London 2012 Olympics DVD

This BBC DVD release includes all the key moments from this Summer’s London 2012 Olympic Games.

Included across the 7 discs are Danny Boyle’s spectacular opening ceremony, the best of the sporting highlights which are presented in day order, the musical extravaganza of Kim Gavin’s closing ceremony and a few nice bonus features.

There’s also a great, informative commentary by Boyle for the opening ceremony and, in good news for those who found the BBC Sport presentation inane, you can also enjoy the ceremony with just the 5.1 stadium audio.

Of the bonus features, the Thanks Tim Projection House feature is the best. This unfolds the house shown during the opening ceremony, allowing the audience to see the projections displayed across all sides while Boyle explains the inspiration behind the segment.

In all there’s more than 15 hours of content to enjoy, 7 of which are given to sports coverage including Lizzie Armitstead winning Team GB’s first Gold, Usain Bolt’s 100m victory and Tom Daley celebrating winning bronze.

The timing of this release is perfect – with the weather turning grey and gloomy there’s no better time to re-live the excitement and colour of the Games.

With the DVD and Blu-ray editions both selling for under £25, this collection offers fantastic value for money and a great self-present or stocking filler for Santa.

Our verdict: 4/5
