BT sees boost in TV subscriptions

bt_youview_hubBT signed up more than 60,000 new TV subscribers in the first quarter of the current financial year, up 8,000 on the previous quarter, taking the total number of subscribers to 1.2m.

This is BT’s best performance since the BT Sport channels launched two years ago and the firm says it’s down to “improvements we have made to our BT TV offering” including the addition of buy-to-keep boxsets such as Game of Thrones and True Detective.

Next month BT will launch a new channel from US cable giant AMC “which will be available exclusively to BT TV customers from August” in a deal which makes it the home to Fear The Walking Dead, the much-anticipated spin-off from global hit The Walking Dead.

BT has also announced the signing of 100,000 customers to its new mobile service which launched in the quarter and the addition of 217,000 new subscribers to its fibre broadband service, taking the total fibre customer base to 3.2m.
