Hush Your Mouth

The first thing to say about crime flick Hush Your Mouth is that’s vastly superior to Cherry Tree Lane, this month’s other ‘big’ British release.

The film tells the story of a family who are coming to terms with the murder of the eldest son but – without giving too much of the story away – eschews the stereotypical ‘revenge’ plot line for a more nuanced story about personal responsibility.

The dialogue sounds and feels natural – against a plus point over Cherry Tree Lane – and the settings and characters are convincing and plausible.

There are some convincing performances, especially from Jason Maza as the youth struggling to unravel the mystery of his brother’s murder and Director Tom Tyrwhitt keeps things moving along nice and steady, allowing the story to unfold at a natural pace.

A great British film which you’ll want to add to your collection.

Hush Your Mouth was released on DVD September 6th
