A restored print of I Was Monty’s Double, John Guillerman’s classic World War 2 movie, is coming to Blu-ray in June courtesy of Studiocanal’s Vintage Classics Collection.
Based on the true story of one of the most audacious operations of World War II, the film reveals how British Intelligence hired actor M.E. Clifton James to impersonate General Montgomery on a tour of North Africa in order to divert the Germans’ attentions away from the real Monty and his plans for D-Day.
Clifton James appears as both himself and Monty opposite John Mills as Major Harvey, Cecil Parker, Leslie Phillips, Bryan Forbes and John Le Mesurier, in this gripping retelling of those fateful few weeks before the Normandy campaign.
The restoration has been completed from a new 4k 16bit scan of the original 35mm negative.
DVD / Blu-Ray Extras:
- New interview with historian Terry Crowdy, author of Deceiving Hitler
- John Mills Home Movie footage
- Monty’s Double (1947)
- Behind the Scenes stills gallery
I Was Monty’s Double comes to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download on June 10th.
