New Dr Christian Jessen series heads up UKTV’s latest original commissions

Dr Christian Will See You Now is one of four new shows announced today.
Multi-channel broadcaster UKTV has announced four new original commissions, including an eight-part series starring Dr Christian Jessen for W and a new show for subscription-free channel Dave set in “the competitive world” of second hand car sales.

Dr Christian Will See You Now will see the popular TV doctor diagnose, counsel and treat patients with a range of medical conditions including fertility problems, STI’s and snoring.

Throughout the series, Jessen and his team of medical professionals will provide a unique and bespoke service, tailored to the needs of his wide range of patients.

An extensive network of fixed-rig cameras will be there to capture every smile, every tear and every jaw-dropping medical revelation as Dr Christian digs deeper than ever to help change his patients’ lives for the better.

Voiced by Sheridan Smith, Used Car Wars features two “salt-of-the earth” car dealerships in Derby – Car a Lot and Geoff Cox Used Cars – who have enjoyed years of rivalry.

Viewers will follow the two operations through their front office cat-and-mouse negotiations, wind-ups and mutual grievances as they go head-to-head trying to convince punters to part with their cash, with whoever makes the most profit each week winning bragging rights.

Commissioned for comedy-themed channel Gold, We Have Been Watching brings together some of the country’s best loved comedy pairings to watch and critique British comedy favourites while sharing stories of their own experiences.

Featuring A-list comedy talent such as David Baddiel, Maxine Peake, Nigel Planer and Jo Joyner, the series also reunites successful comedy pairings John Challis and Sue Holderness (Only Fools and Horses), Sally Phillips and Sarah Hadland (Miranda), Ricky Tomlinson and Ralf Little (The Royle Family), and Russell Tovey and Sarah Solemani (Him and Her).

Lizard Lick Touring features hit series Lizard Lick Towing’s eponymous hero, former college football player and ordained minister, Ron Shirley and his ex powerlifter and MMA fighter wife, Amy.

The pair are already familiar to audiences for their free-wheeling, colourful world in rural North Carolina where they jointly run their hugely successful motor business, Lizard Lick Towing.

Now Ron has decided to head east and try his luck in the UK – and he’s given Dave full-on, unfettered access.

The four new shows were unveiled at UKTV Live, the broadcasters’ annual showcase of upcoming programmes.

Other programme highlights coming to UKTV’s channels in the coming months include the highly anticipated new series of Red Dwarf, the return of Sir David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities, new comedy Zapped starring James Buckley and a full series of Marley’s Ghosts which stars Sarah Alexander.

CEO Darren Childs said, “It feels great to be celebrating all the fantastic new shows we’ve been making with the guests here at BFI today.

“UKTV is investing heavily in great new programming and we have such riches here to show for it.

“A massive 73% of the British population now watch our channels every month, and what’s really exciting is that UKTV Originals are an enormous part of that success.”
