One to watch: Hoff the Record

June 15, 2015 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

hoffStarting this Thursday, Hoff the Record is the newest, and for my money, funniest commission from free to air entertainment channel Dave.

The mockumentary series sees former Knight Rider and Baywatch star David Hasselhoff play a fictionalised version of himself who is forced to move to the UK after work dries up and his disastrous personal life leaves him desperate for cash.

Dave and parent company UKTV recently treated media to a cast and crew screening where we saw the show’s slightly patchy first and hilarious fifth episodes.

Episode one nicely sets up the premise but, while it has plenty of laughs, the cast’s timing and confidence are notably more accomplished in the later episodes. Still, there’s enough fun to be had and promise on show to make it worth sticking with over the next few weeks.

Fans of Life’s Too Short and the Office will find lots to like here, as will long-term fans of Hasselhoff who throws himself into proceedings as the show mercilessly sends him up.

Happy channel bosses have already ordered a second series which will air next year.

Dave, Thursday 18th June
