Sherlock star Rupert Graves is joining the cast of BBC One’s Last Tango in Halifax as Gary Jackson, a new romantic interest for Nicola Walker’s character, Gillian.
The third series, currently filming in various locations around the north of England, finds newlyweds Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid ) enjoying the first throes of married life.
However, the honeymoon period is firmly over when Alan’s world is shaken by someone from his past, causing a rift between him and Celia.
Meanwhile, Celia’s headstrong daughter Caroline (Lancashire) and her ever-forgiving partner Kate (Nina Sosanya) are reunited after their fractious relationship last series.
As Kate’s pregnancy progresses Caroline, at last, comes to the realisation that Kate is the love of her life and wants to make an honest woman of her, something Celia struggles to come to terms with.
Series writer Sally Wainwright said: “I’m thrilled that we’re going into a third series with really exciting new story lines that move Celia and Alan’s relationship forward with hopefully the same mix of gusto, comedy and drama.”
Nicola Shindler, founder of RED Production Company which makes the series for BBC One, added; “We’re so excited to get everyone back together for the third series of our multi-award winning show and we’re thrilled Rupert’s joined our stellar cast.
“The continued support and success of this much-loved drama is testament to Sally’s warm and sincere scripts and we can’t wait to show fans what we have in store for the new series.”
