There’s just a week left before Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are back on our screens in The Grand Tour, which means you have just seven days to ensure your TV kit can access Amazon’s Prime Video service which has exclusive rights to the show.
Trailers for the show suggest fans will find the trio’s familiar mix of car stunts, gags and rivalry has survived the move from BBC Two’s Top Gear, with Clarkson recently comparing the differences between the two shows with those between Cottage Pie and Shepherd’s Pie.
Rather than a static location the gang have, as the name implies, taken their new show in the road. Episode one’s studio sequences were filmed in California with episodes 2, 3 and 4 set in Johannesburg and Whitby. The show will also visit Stuttgart, Loch Ness, Whitby, Lapland and Nashville before ending its year long journey in Dubai.
The first thing you’ll need is an Amazon Prime subscription or standalone monthly subscription to the Prime Video service and then you’ll need a device which has access to the the Amazon Prime Video app.
Most recent models of Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio and Panasonic Smart TVs include the app as standard and it can also accessed though Xbox One and the PS4. The service is also available via some internet connected Blu-ray players and Roku’s set top boxes, but not Apple TV, NOW TV, Sky, YouView or Virgin Media set top boxes.
The app can also be installed on most smartphones and tablets.
And of course Prime Video is also available on Amzon’s own range of Amazon’s Fire TV sticks and Fire TVset top boxes, some of which support 4K (assuming you have a compatible TV) so you can watch the series in all its glory.
If you don’t already have one of these, now’s the time to place your order to ensure you don’t miss one of the true TV events of the year.
With the show’s launch imminent, Amazon has added a special Clarkson, Hammond and May alarm tone to its Echo & Echo Dot music streamer and voice activated personal assistant, allowing fans to start the day with Jeremy bellowing at them.
In addition the devices’ AI, Alexa, will also reveal all if you ask her the following questions:
Alexa, What do you think of Jeremy Clarkson?
Alexa, What do you think of James May?
Alexa, What do you think of Richard Hammond?
Alexa, were you invited on The Grand Tour?
Update: Amazon has also released a special ‘one week to go’ video:
