Which of Sky’s new sports channels will BT TV customers get?

July 11, 2017 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

After weeks of leaks and speculation Sky have unveiled an all-new lineup of themed sports channels which will also be available on Now TV, Virgin Media and TalkTalk under their longterm carriage deals.

But for BT TV customers the picture is currently less certain.

The two firms have spent years locked in a dispute which went back and forth between regulators and the courts before they finally agreed a deal which allowed BT to offer the high definition versions of Sky Sports 1 & 2 to their customers.

With both of those channels vanishing later this month customers are asking what this means for them.

So far there’s been no official announcement which strongly suggests the two firms have yet to agree what content will arrive on BT TV but the silence is leading to some very unreliable rumours being spread online.

While it’s currently impossible to get a line on what’s happening, the fact the current channels are due to be be withdrawn next week means it’s likely they’ll want to bring this to a speedy conclusion.

After all, BT will want to ensure its customers can access all the Premier League matches and Sky’s unlikely to want to prompt fresh concerns about competition and dominance just as its merger with 21st Century Fox is under ministerial and regulatory scrutiny.

In the meantime we’d suggest holding tight and ignoring the ‘my mate’s mum’s uncle spoke to someone who said…’ style rumours on social media and certain forums.

UPATE: The two companies have now signed a deal giving BT access to some Sky Sports content.
