Avenue Q returns for ten-week London run and UK tour

avenue-q-sqaureSmash-hit musical Avenue Q, which features a mixed cast of human and puppet actors, is returning for a limited London run and national tour.

The multi-award comedy has wowed audiences in the US, UK and across the world since it first opened in 2003, winning the Tony for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.

The felt cast – including Trekkie Monster, Lucy the Slut and Kate Monster – have become cultural icons thanks to some catchy, satirical songs including the very naughty The Internet is for Porn and Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist.

Recent college graduate Princeton moves to Avenue Q filled with hopes and dreams and in search of his purpose.

What he finds is Different Strokes’ Gary Coleman fixing the toilets, girl next door Kate Monster with her unfulfilled dreams for a Monsterssori school, internet sexpert Trekkie Monster and a closeted gay Republican.

Oh, and some much-needed lessons about real life and adulthood.

Avenue Q was adapted for UK audiences by renowned theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh.

The new production is being mounted the Greenock and Greenwich-based Sell a Door Theatre Company which aims to attract young audiences to the theatre.

Artistic Director David Hutchinson said “This is our third major musical production following Spring Awakening in 2011 and Seussical in 2012 & 2013. I have every faith that this parable, which so cleverly pokes fun at the issues young people face going into adulthood, will strike a chord with audiences up and down the country.”
