BBC announces new Doctor Who ‘Making of’ series

Three years after axing Doctor Who Confidential, the popular weekly behind the scenes look at the BBC’s sci-fi hit series, the broadcaster has confirmed a new series delving into the show’s production.

Doctor Who Extra will be available via the Red Button and online at BBC iPlayer and will follow Peter Capaldi “every step of the way throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor.”

As well as Capaldi, the show will include contributions from Jenna Coleman and new series regular Samuel Anderson, ) plus guests Frank Skinner, Keeley Hawes, Michelle Gomez and Ben Miller.

Writers, such as Lead Writer/Executive Producer Steven Moffat, and directors will also contribute.

The BBC says: ‘Casual viewers will enjoy the fun, fast pace and lighter side of Doctor Who Extra but there’s plenty for fans, too, as we take a quick dip into the archive for every edition, reflecting on how Doctor Who’s history is echoed in this current series.

“Packed with emotion, great stories and a real sense of ‘access all areas’, Doctor Who Extra is essential viewing for everyone who’s ever watched Doctor Who and wondered what it’s a like to be a part of the team that brings this global phenomena to our screens.”

Each 10-minute episode will be available after that week’s Doctor Who episode has aired on BBC One.
