Peter Capaldi’s second series of Doctor Who materialises on BBC One in September with the star promising “taking, thrilling, epic” adventures for the Time Lord.

Joining Capaldi for the new series is Jenna Coleman who reprises her role as companion Clara Oswald to help the Doctor take on a mix of monsters and foes old and new, including Zygons, Missy (played by Michelle Gomez), and a city of Daleks.

As previously announced, Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver also return for the new series which includes great appearances from Maisie Williams, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.

Capaldi says: “Soaring through all of time and space, series nine sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure. The cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in.

“But he’s almost reckless in his abandon. It’s almost like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down.”

BBC One on Saturday 19 September
