BBC brings iPlayer personalisation & bookmarks to YouView

YouView users can now get a more personal BBC iPlayer experience after the broadcaster extended its BBC account feature to the platform, allowing users to access their list of personal favourites and carrying on watching shows they started on another device.

The BBC says the feature will be rolled out to other connected TV platforms “over the coming weeks and months”.

To make logging in easy to use, the BBC has adopted a ‘Pin and Pair’ system where the user logs in on their computer or tablet and then enters a PIN displayed on their set top box to authorise its access to their BBC account.

Dan Taylor-Watt, Head of BBC iPlayer, says: “Enabling sign-in on connected TVs and the rollout of new personalised features builds on the BBC’s strategy to make BBC iPlayer more personal across screens – letting you discover and enjoy programmes that are more relevant to you on the devices you use, whenever and wherever you use them.”

BBC bosses say further features including personalised recommendations will be introduced in the near future, but have yet to confirm users will be able to access BBC Store purchases on their set top boxes.
