Clockwise – John Cleese’s classic comedy is now streaming on Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime Video users looking for some quintessentially British viewing this Christmas might like to check out Clockwise which was recently added to the platform’s library.

This 1986 classic film stars John Cleese in perhaps his most enduring post Python and Fawlty Towers role, that of Über punctual headteacher Brian Stimpson who prides himself on running his school “like clockwork”.

But Stimpson’s devotion to timekeeping falls apart when he misses the train that’s meant to take him to the annual Headmasters’ conference of which he’s been elected chair, the first time the honour has fallen to the head of a comprehensive school.

What follows is an increasingly desperate battle as the ever more frantic and delayed Stimpson refuses to give up on his quest to reach the conference.

As well as Cleese, the film also stars Penelope Wilton, Alison Steadman and Stephen Moore and boasts in its supporting cast Joan Hickson who at the time was enjoying global fame for her definitive portrayal of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple.

While Stimpson’s commitment to punctuality and time management is perhaps a little OTT, this infographic shows there are plenty of positive benefits to properly managing your time:
