It was way back in February of this year that NetEnt announced that they had secured the rights to Conan, and they revealed their plans to launch a Conan Slot game at the ICE iGaming conference in London.
The date is still unconfirmed but based on announcement to release time for other offerings from the company it is thought to be very imminent now, and excitement is building, including the Conan fans at the mayfaircasino.com offices.
Conan the Barbarian has featured in numerous books, series and films over the years, with huge stars including Jason Momoa and Arnold Schwarzenegger taking their turn to wield the sword as the hero himself. Just this week it was reported that the former actor might not be done with the role when new rumours from Chris Morgan, a scriptwriter with Universal suggested there might be a final outing on the cards.
Arnie was set to play Conan in a remake of The Legend of Conan, but it got canned before scenes were even filmed, with Universal apparently concerned that moviegoers just wouldn’t get behind the hype. Now it seems they may have had a chance of heart and The Legend may indeed live on with a very much older hero in situ.
The franchise sparked by the original outings and new rumours is massive and worth millions when you take into account the role-playing games, comics, video games and more that have all proudly lifted the iconic name on high.
Whether he was busy being a legend, the barbarian or the destroyer, there is little doubt the character reached cult status so anything new will still be well received, which is obviously what NetEnt are banking on with their slot game. Their reputation is also rather godlike, so they will only be interested in taking on projects predicted to offer a high return.
With some of the best graphic designers and software developers on their payroll, the game is already looking like a bestseller, and there is little doubt online casinos will be eager to get this slot onto their front pages to attract the Conan fans to the site.
As yet we have no concrete knowledge of what the game will actually feature, but there is a trailer on the NetEnt website that offers up a dark and barren wilderness that looks perfect as a backdrop for the game.
Bryan Upton, Director of Games at NetEnt speaking at ICE, said “Conan is a character and a brand with a fantastic history and legions of fans all over the world. We are honoured to be creating our own adaptation of Conan and can’t wait to give him the hallmark NetEnt treatment.”
We would expect to see their classic gaming style with plenty of hidden bonus games, maybe some free spins and of course some great winning opportunities.
