The arrival of Fear The Walking Dead in the UK later this month looks set to become one of the truly big TV events of the year.

If you don’t know already, the show is the prequel to global hit The Walking Dead (TWD) which stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, an Atlanta police officer who wakes from a coma to find the world has been overrun by zombies.

Grimes quickly finds himself thrust into the role of leader to a small group who must battle for their survival in a world that’s now relentlessly hostile towards them.

Fear The Walking Dead is set some years before the original series and will show for the first time how our comfortable world filled with creature comforts turned into the apocalyptic hell filled with, well, creatures.

Don’t be put off if you’ve never seen TWD because while the new series is officially classed as a prequel, it’s set in a different location (Los Angeles) and is based around an all-new cast of characters and storylines.

This means both long-time fans of the franchise and newcomers will be watching Fear The Walking Dead on equal terms and, most importantly, new fans won’t find themselves tripping up over in-jokes and throw-backs to the parent series.

Fear’s line-up of characters include divorced high school teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) who shares custody of his son with ex-wife Liaza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and Travis’ fiancée Madison Clark (Kim Dickens).

Madison has two children – ambitious high-achiever Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and her polar-opposite brother Nick (Frank Dillane), a high school drop out with drug problems.

The group’s every day domestic life and their emotional woes and tribulations look set to be quickly overshadowed as they find themselves confronted by a world that’s starting to change around them thanks to an unusually potent bout of ‘flu’…

Fear The Walking Dead gets its UK premiere at 9pm, August 31st on AMC, a new channel available exclusively to BT customers, including those with BT TV and Sky viewers who subscribe to the BT Sports pack.
