Filming commences on David Nicholls’ Great Expectations adaptation

Filming for David Nicholls’ big screen adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic Great Expectations gets underway next week with Four Weddings and A Funeral director Mike Newell at the helm.

The film features an impressive ensemble cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Robbie Coltrane.

Dickens’ classic novel has been adapted by acclaimed screenwriter and novelist David Nicholls. Funding is being provided by BBC Films, the BFI Film Fund and US based Ulti-Media Group, Inc which will handle North American rights.

Mike Newell said: “‘Great Expectations’ has been a book that has haunted me since childhood and it is a privilege to bring to the screen one of the greatest stories in the world.

“David Nicholls’ screenplay has brought Charles Dickens’ work to life for a new audience young and old, reminding us that, in two hundred years, so little has fundamentally changed in our world. And, as always, human nature triumphs over adversity.”

Filming commences on October 10th and will last for ten weeks.
