The cost a TV licence will increase by £4 to £154.50 from April 1st, the Government has confirmed.
Although collected by the BBC, the cost of the annual television licence is set by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and is due to rise in line with inflation for five years from 1 April 2017.
The increased cost will apply to all licences bought or renewed after 1 April 2019, but those already buying a licence on an instalment scheme starting before that date will continue paying the old rate of £150.50 until their licence comes up for renewal.
The BBC says its TV Licensing arm will advise all existing licence fee payers due to renew in March to pay on time so that they pay the current rate of £150.50.
