Jane Horrocks heads cast of Sky's new supermarket sitcom

Jane Horrocks and Mark Addy are to head up the cast of a brand new supermarket-based sitcom being made for Sky 1 and Sky 1 HD.

Joining the pair in Trollied are Being Human star Jason Watkins, former Waterloo Road actress Lorraine Cheshire, Joel Fry, Nick Blood and This is England star Chanel Cresswell.

Set in the fictional Valco budget supermarket, producers say the show takes “a comic look at a setting we’ve all spent too much of our lives in” complete with the ever-familiar bored kids on the checkouts, the ineffectual managers and the irate customers.

The show is being written by a team of writers lead by Shameless and Life on Mars writer Julie Rutterford and is directed Paul Walker who has previously worked on Shameless & Casualty.

Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy at Sky said: “Trollied is the first of a number of brand new British comedies for Sky and we’re extremely excited by the talent around the show, on and off screen.”

Sky’s Director of Programmes Stuart Murphy described the show as “a fantastic example of the aspirations we have for comedy on Sky 1 HD.”

Murphy added: “I am delighted that our comedy output is increasing and that we’re firmly establishing Sky as the home of great British comedy for our customers.”
