Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling OBE have joined the cast of BBC Two’s upcoming spy drama London Spy.
The pair will appear opposite Ben Wishaw, who plays Danny – a “hedonistic romantic” who gets drawn into the dangerous world of British espionage when he falls for the anti-social but enigmatic Alex.
When Alex suddenly disappears, Danny is utterly ill-equipped to take on his complex and codified world. Young, innocent and adrift he needs to decide whether he’s prepared to fight for the truth?
Newcomer Edward Holcroft will take on the role of Alex.
London Spy is written by Tom Rob Smith, author of the award-winning Child 44 trilogy, and produced by Working Title for BBC Two.
Juliette Howell, Head of Television at Working Title Television, says: “Working Title couldn’t be more proud to be producing this captivating drama. Incredible scripts, a hugely gifted director and a world-class cast; London Spy exudes quality through and through.”
Polly Hill, BBC Head of Independent Drama, added: “It’s testament to Tom’s wonderful scripts, that they have attracted such an incredible cast. Together with Jakob directing, this is an exciting team which promises to make London Spy an unmissable drama for BBC Two.”
