MTV serves up cruellest dating show yet but poll suggests we’re a nation of romantics

March 28, 2014 - Staff@seenituk

ex_beach_mtvFrom the recently revived Blind Date through to Temptation Island and MTV’s forthcoming Ex On The Beach, it seems TV bosses can’t get enough of dating shows.

But MTV’s new show is possibly the cruellest of all.

Show producers start by asking ‘What happens when eight smoking hot single guys and girls arrive in paradise for a dream holiday of sun, sea, sex and good times?’ and then add some complication by bringing along contestants’ exes to break up the party.

It’ll to be interesting to see how audiences react to the show because a recent poll by Ladbrokes suggests that for all the instant snoggery and ‘fun’ shown on TV, we’re actually a romantic nation which prefers to take its time over matters of the heart.

While a majority of both sexes say they’d kiss on a first date – 58.05% of woman and 68.35% of men – only a minority say they’d sleep with someone first time out – though ladies seem far more reserved (only 8.1%) than men (41.84%).

It’s not just their bodies the guys want to be generous with – the vast majority say they’d expect to pay on a first date (87.51%) while the majority of women (63.75%) would expect to split the cost.

If deciding where to go and what to do on that all-important first date is stressing you out, relax – Ladbrokes have designed a ‘date generator app’ to help you plan the perfect night.

But if you’re hoping to persuade your date to share a romantic meal at the local Mexican eatery you’re likely to be disappointed because the poll reveals it’s the nation’s least popular cuisine for a first date.

Far better to suggest Italian – popular with both genders – if you want to show you have something in common.

Ex On The Beach starts April 22nd on MTV
