Members of the public are being asked to share their real-life sex stories in a new Channel 4 web series which ties-in with two new dramas from Russell T Davies.
The Queer as Folk and Doctor Who writer is currently making two interconnected dramas, Cucumber and Banana, about the lives of gay men.
Both will be supported by a third, web only, series called Tofu which is is described as “a light-hearted documentary series exploring all facets of contemporary sex culture.”
Each 20-minute episode will focus on a different topic through a dynamic combination of interviews, sketch comedy, animation, fantasy elements and musical set pieces.
The series is being overseen by prolific YouTuber Benjamin Cook who will explore, debate and celebrate sex and sexual taboos through a variety of scripted sketches and intimate interviews.
Producers are inviting potential contributors (aged 18 and over) of all genders and sexual orientations to be part of the show and discuss elements of their sex life, including the challenges and triumphs of first sexual encounters, coming out through, one-night stands and the use of hook-up apps like Tinder and Grindr.
Each episode will also feature interviews with the casts of Cucumber and Banana and porn stars to offer viewers an insight into “new attitudes to sex and contemporary sexual culture.”
Potential contributors must submit a short video (up to 90 seconds long) in which they recount their best “sexcapade” via the website: www.tofuvideos.com.
More detailed information about the video content and how they will be used by production can also be found on the site.
Creator and writer behind the trilogy of shows, Russell T Davies, said: “While Cucumber and Banana are fictional, we know that often the sweetest, most heart-warming, most tragic and most heartbreaking stories are real life tales.
“Tofu is all about highlighting the very real issues that we reference in the fictional shows – it will be a unique mixture of content made by the very talented Benjamin Cook. ”
Cook added: “We’ll be interviewing real people about their real experiences. Men, women, every gender – all the pronouns! – trans or cis, straight or gay, bi, curious, maybe you’re sex-obsessed or take-it-or-leave-it, or maybe you’ve – whisper the words – never had sex and aren’t afraid to say so. We want to hear from you. No subject and no individual is off limits. We can’t wait to hear your stories.”
