Here’s a sneak look at the opening episode of Whitechapel series four which comes to ITV next month.

Stars Rupert Penry-Jones, Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton all return as members of a Police squad investigating crimes inspired by legends of the East End.

The new series touches on historical precedents such as witchcraft, cold war espionage, ghoulish Victorian surgeons, cryptozoology and hidden horrors in the East End’s underground tunnels.

The history of Whitechapel as a centre of evil comes to the fore. The world remains a shadowy, gothic place, infused with history, dripping with the blood of the past. In Whitechapel, history isn’t dead, it’s deadly.

Whitechapel series is produced by Carnival Films for ITV and has been a huge hit both in the UK and internationally, including in the US where it airs on BBC America.

The six-part new series starts Wednesday 4 September at 9pm on ITV.
