Whitechapel star Rupert Penry-Jones says ITV has axed the series.
The show stars Penry-Jones, Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton as members of a Police squad investigating crimes inspired by legends of the East End.
Produced by Carnival Films for ITV and has been a huge hit both in the UK and internationally, including in the US where it airs on BBC America.
However the former Spooks star last night told fans on Twitter: ”Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone but ITV don’t want any more Whitechapel. No not joking I am afraid.”
The actor is due to return to BBC One in a third series of legal drama Silk and hinted that he an “amazing” project coming up.
