Buyers of eBooks from Waterstones may soon be able to read their books on Apple’s new iPad – but not until at least September.
The Waterstones iPad and iPhone app, development of which had previously been confirmed to eBook Magazine, is set to be released in September according to The Bookseller magazine which spoke to the retailer’s managing director Dominic Myers.
A September release would see the company join the increasingly popular device in good time for Christmas and place them into direct competition with Apple’s own iBooks store plus Amazon’s Kindle and kobo – both of which already have apps available for the iPad and iPhone.
Details of the app are sparse – as recently as Thursday a spokesperson for the company declined to say whether it would allow individual ePub files to be copied to the iPad or whether it would follow the functionality of the kobo app and provide a cloud based version of purchased titles.
