Amazon Prime Video vs Netflix

July 17, 2018 - Staff@seenituk

In recent years the number of people beginning to stream movies and series has drastically increased. When one thinks of streaming movies or series one’s brain automatically thinks Netflix, but Amazon has recently started challenging Netflix in terms of its own Prime Instant Video service.

Netflix plays host to some amazing movies such as the Hangover and Amazon playing host to some gripping series such as Preacher. Streaming has revolutionised the way one would watch movies and series because it gives you access to the latest and unlimited access to a large variety of movies and series.

There are many types of subscriptions available from either service. Amazon offers free trials. Netflix offers you up to a month free while Amazon offers you their Prime membership for up to 30 days free of charge. Amazon also offers students a six-month trial of which is free.

Amazon’s paid subscriptions start at as little as £79 for a full year while Netflix has a starting price of £5.99 a month, which is a basic subscription, but they also have another starting point which includes HD streaming at only £7.99 a month.

Netflix has made it their goal to reach many different forms of technological platforms. They have made it possible to stream Netflix from smartphones such as IOS, Android, Windows smartphones, streaming boxes and any Smart TV.

You are even able to personalise your account by setting up various profiles. Amazon Prime Video is also available on many platforms such as IOS, Android and streaming box apps. Netflix has a very simple interface with it being easy to navigate through their menu.

Their menu offers you a variety of options such as New releases, Top Picks and different genres. Amazon has a fairly simple interface as well with the user having the ability to open many different tabs which has a recommendation of content specifically best suited for you which is based off your most commonly viewed series or movies.

Due to strict contracts and studio agreements third-party content that appears while streaming is always changing. Whatever might be popular now or available now might not be available a month later. Although Netflix has a tendency to know exactly what their viewers are looking for. Netflix manages to bring back vintage content that majority of their users would enjoy, for example a classic movie such as Blockbusters.

Although Amazon can’t be counted out, they have started to challenge Netflix in terms of their third-party content. There are times where you are able to stream something through Prime Video but are unable to view it through Netflix. Amazon Prime Video has even produced their own content which generally consists of web shorts and unconventional documentaries.

Netflix has noticed that original programming has become very beneficial to the future of streaming thus instead of depending on third-party studios to give them content they have produced their own content.

Amazon has also recognised that producing their own content could also be largely beneficial to them. Therefore, it can be seen that both Netflix and Amazon Prime are heading to becoming more dominant in their industry.
