After months of speculation and waiting, Apple has confirmed that its updated iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch operating system is set for release today.
iOS 4.1 finally brings a number a of features to the iPad which have already been available on the iPhone and iPod Touch including multitasking, Game Centre and folders for applications as well as introducing the ability to stream to the new Apple TV via AirPlay and wireless printing to selected printers.
The update also heralds the introduction of a new, free ‘Find my iPhone’ feature which is available without a MobileMe subscription for the first time.
iPad users will also welcome the introduction of the integrated inbox already available on other iOS devices
In a statement, Apple CEO Steve jobs said the update “makes the iPad a completely new product” and predicted “the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”
