Apple has released a new version of its iBooks reading app for iPad and iPhone which drops the wooden shelves and skeuomorphic design elements of previous versions.
The update is keeping with the flatter look and feel of iOS 7, the latest version of Apple’s operating system for mobile devices.
The original iOS 7 featured felt, wood and lather effects throughout in order to give icons and apps a familiar feel.
However iOS 7 has dropped these skeuomorphic elements for a simpler look.
Instead of the wooden shelves of the original, the new-look iBooks features a stark white library page. As with other updated apps, there is no option to restore the original look.
Fans of Apple’s page-turn curl effect will be pleased to know that it has been carried over to the new app.
