Online retailer Argos appears to have outed BT’s top-secret new YouView box which has been designed to match the look of its Home Hub router.
The ISP is understood to be trialling the box, known internally as the G4, ahead of next year’s rollout.
Trial participants are forbidden from discussing the box or posting pictures of it online. However BT’s attempts to keep it under-wraps have been dented by Argos’s uploading of three pictures.
The images can currently be seen on the Argos product page and have now been uploaded to various forums.
Built by Humax, the box is reportedly faster than current models offered by BT or rival TalkTalk.
Separately BT subsidiary Plusnet is looking for customers to join trials of its YouView-based TV service.
The company says it will offer “Freeview channels and easy access to on-demand content, such as the BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD and Demand5. Plusnet is also offering customer trialists access to extra channels including top sporting action on BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN, as well as entertainment channels including SyFy, Universal, E! and Fox – all delivered through the fibre broadband connection.”
Details on how to join the trial can be found here.
