BBC Worldwide has added online game Doctor Who: Worlds in Time to three gaming communities.
The game, which launched this spring, is now available on Kongregate, Armor Games and Newgrounds.com. BBCWW says more distribution deals will be announced at a future date.
Adding Worlds in Time to existing platforms has already delivered “a sizable bump in traffic and user retention,” said BBC Worldwide in a statement.
The browser-based, free-to-play multiplayer game draws on the show’s “rich mythology, locations and excitement” to create a world for fans to enjoy and explore.
Players can join together in missions identified by the Time Lord to defend civilization from infamous villains, including Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels, bent on creating chaos and destruction in the universe.
Locations in the game inclose Skaro, Messaline, The Library and New New York, delivering the authentic experience of being part of the Doctor Who realm.
Robert Nashak, EVP Digital Entertainment & Games, BBC Worldwide said, “We are excited to extend the games’ reach to a wider audience and bring the beloved Doctor Who brand to more players.
“Distribution deals with companies like Newgrounds.com, Kongregate and Armor Games are mutually beneficial for both parties, and provide players an avenue to expand their gaming options.”
Jim Greer, Kongregate co-founder and CEO said, “We are excited to showcase the first Doctor Who online game to the Kongregate gaming platform.
