BBC announces new monthly news programme

February 1, 2013 - Staff@seenituk

BBC_NewVeteran journalist John Simpson is to host a new monthly BBC One series in which the BBC’s on-air editors will tackle key issues of the day.

The programme will comprise a selection of short films on a variety of topics, including arts, sport and science alongside business, politics and foreign affairs.

Each report will focus on one editor’s particular area of expertise and will strive to answer a specific question, such as ‘has the welfare state had its day?’, or ‘what’s wrong with football?’

John Simpson, World Affairs Editor and presenter of BBC News: The Editors, said: “I’ve been a BBC editor for 30 years, and I know how much knowledge and experience my fellow editors have amassed, yet can’t always fit into a traditional news report.

“The point of ‘The Editors’ is to free us up to think about the big questions of the day in more depth and to provide answers to the questions which our audience has about the world around them.  Our aim is to make it challenging, and really exciting.”

Danny Cohen, Controller of BBC One, said: “The Editors is a really exciting addition to BBC One’s News and Current Affairs programming.

“This new monthly Monday night series presented by John Simpson will provide audiences with a deeper, more comprehensive look at world issues and reinforces the channel’s commitment to high quality journalism and analysis.”
