BBC iPlayer Goes Streaming

December 18, 2007 - Staff@seenituk

The BBC’s iPlayer is to formally expand its service from Christmas Day with a new streaming version, making the platform available to all computer users for the first time.

To mark the Christmas Day launch the corporation has lined up an advertising campaign starring Sir David Attenborough, Jeremy Clarkson, Jo Whiley and Mark Radcliffe.

Until now the service has been available in beta only. The launch of the then Windows XP version was controversial, attracting criticism from users of other operating systems and campaigners for open standards.

According to the BBC “The first phase of the campaign will feature a dynamic mix of on and off-air activity, with key BBC talent highlighting their own unmissable moments from BBC Television.”

In addition Nationwide City Screens, Street-Live Screens and large format posters will feature the campaign strapline “BBC iPlayer. Making the unmissable, unmissable”

Kerry Moss, Head of Marketing, BBC iPlayer, says “The launch campaign aims to bring BBC iPlayer to a mass, mainstream audience. “
