BBC One’s Merlin is to follow the channel’s sci-fi hit Doctor Who in spawning an online game off-shoot.
Developed by Bossa Studios, creators of BAFTA-winning game Monstermind, offers real-time, co-operative play to ensure that when it comes to combat, no threats are ever faced alone.
Fans of the Shine TV produced series will be able to join the knights’ quests, fighting dark forces shoulder-to-shoulder with their friends and ensuring good triumphs over evil.
Imre Jele, creator in chief at Bossa Studios, comments: “We have carefully crafted the game to capture the very essence of the world’s most famous sorcerer.
“Players can explore magical lands while adventuring alongside trusty allies in the Crystal Cave, knocking out ferocious Wilddeoren rats or uniting with one of their favourite characters like Merlin or Arthur.”
Due to open in closed beta this summer at Comic-Con International (12-15th July, 2012), Bossa Studios is currently recruiting gamers and fans of the show to be some of the first lucky few to trial the game.
The official public launch this autumn is set to coincide with the start of the fifth season of Merlin on BBC One.
Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps, executive producers at Shine TV and creators of the globally-televised smash hit, add: “We are amazed at the attention to detail. Fans of the show are sure to love the opportunity to create and follow their own destinies!”
