Doctor Foster is heading to India after BBC Studios struck a format deal which will see a local version of the hit drama series launch on Hotstar later this year.
Originally written by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic for BBC One, the show has previously been licensed to Russia, France and South Korea.
Renowned filmmakers Tigmanshu Dhulia and Aijza Khan will direct the as yet untitled Indian series.
Sumi Connock, Creative Director of Formats, BBC Studios said, “Strong female-led dramas continue to capture the attention of our clients.
“Doctor Foster’s unique and brilliant portrayal of adultery and revenge has provided a complex psychological thriller within the genre, so I’m especially pleased that India will be getting their own local version.”
Sameer Gogate, Business Head, Production, India, BBC Studios said, “The original Doctor Foster has a tremendous following internationally, and we believe that an Indian version will work very well in our region.”
It’s also been announced that a second series of the show’s French version, Infidèle, has been ordered by TF1.
