BBC Studios names head of merged licensing and merchandising division

BBC Studios, the broadcaster’s commercial arm, has created a new licensing division which will become responsible for everything from digital downloads and DVDs through to branded live shows and the BBC Motion Gallery clips service.

The new Consumer Products and Licensing Division is to be headed up by Stephen Davies, currently Director for Live Entertainment, Music and Motion Gallery, and will oversee the commercial exploitation of major BBC brands including Doctor Who, Top Gear and Strictly Come Dancing, plus the commercial and consumer sales of BBC TV and Radio output.

Davies said: “Bringing the expertise in our consumer product and licensing teams together will mean that we can innovate, collaborate and share best practice across the business lines more easily and continue to delight and surprise audiences and make sustainable returns to the BBC.”
