Online book retailer bol.com has launched two new ebook reader and shopping apps for iOS and Android devices to Dutch book lovers.
From this month the Android app will come preloaded on each Samsung Galaxy tablet and smartphone sold by bol.com will the iOS version for Apple’s iPad and iPhone will be available to download from iTunes.
txtr CEO Christophe Maire said the Dutch eBook market “is ahead of most other European countries” with more 1500 eBooks are downloaded per day.
As with txtr’s own-label offering, the app allows readers to buy new titles and ‘side load’ existing ePub titles protected by Adobe’s DRM – the most common file/DRM combination for ebooks within Europe.
Maire said the deal would “enable bol.com to offer consumers easy mobile access to their eBook offering of 5.000 Dutch and 130.000 English titles.”
Daniel Ropers, CEO of bol.com, added: “txtr has a great eReading solution for a number of devices. On top of this, txtr gives online retailers the best solution to put their own eBook store quickly and easily on every mobile device.”
Rogers said the retailer, which is the largest online shop in the Netherlands, “signed the deal in order to keep our leading position and to compete in this exciting new, but fast growing market.”
