BT Sport adds new ‘red button’ service

September 19, 2014 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

bt_sport_extraBT Sport has announced a new ‘pop-up’ red button channel offering subscribers more of its sporting coverage on their TVs.

Dubbed BT Sport Extra, the new service will be available whenever the broadcaster has additional content beyond what can accommodated on its BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN channels.

Until now this overspill content was only accessible via the BT Sport website or app.

Coverage kicks-off with the live broadcast of the Ligue 1 French football clash between Bordeaux v Evian on September 19th.

Sky customers will be able to access BT Sport Extra by pressing the red button on their remote while BT TV subscribers will be prompted to switch over to channel 527.

The channel will be added to Virgin Media at a later date.

BT TV subscribers will be able to record events shown on BT Sport Extra.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Reach is at the heart of BT Sport and we are continually looking at new ways to enhance our viewers’ experience.

“BT Sport Extra provides sports fans with access to even more live sporting action whether that’s on TV, via the red button, app or online.”
