BT Sport says it WILL now show this weekend’s UFC contest between Tarec Saffiedine vs. Hyun Gyu Lim contest in Singapore.

Earlier this week it was announced that the bout fell outside BT Sport’s rights package with the UFC despite initially being scheduled to air on channel and would instead be shown as a Pay Per View event on UFC.tv.

This seemed to contradict BT’s earlier statements that it was the UK home of UFC and its promises to show “all UFC events” over the next three years.

The game’s transfer to PPV came just days after the UFC announced a new online “Fight Pass” subscription service which will give US fans “a minimum of 10 exclusive live events per year, exclusive live prelims, newly created and exclusive content.”

The move prompted widespread online criticism from BT Sport customers and UFC fans.

The fight will still be shown live on UFC.tv from 11:30am but will also be available on BT Sport 1 from 9pm, allowing more patient fans to avoid the hefty £6.99 PPV fee.

On Twitter BT Sport journalist Simon Head announced: “We WILL be showing UFC Fight Night Singapore on Saturday. It will be shown on BT Sport 1 at 9pm.”

The UFC described the delayed broadcast as “Great news for UK fans.”
