BT Sport unveils new ‘Ultimate’ channel with 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos

August 1, 2019 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

BT Sport has unveiled a new channel which it says will provide fans with the very best way to watch and listen to their favourite sports, depending on the platform and equipment they’re using.

Replacing the BT Sport 4K channel, BT Sport Ultimate can deliver ultra-high-definition (UHD) and high dynamic range (HDR) pictures and, exclusively via BT TV, Dolby Atmos sound.

Already live on BT TV and to EE 5G pay monthly customers, the channel will soon be available to other customers, including EE 4G pay monthly customers and those watching via the BT Sport App or Sky.

The channel, which shows its first live match in HDR this Sunday’s with the FA Community Shield clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, launches alongside the announcement of new signings to BT Sport’s presenting line-up.

New arrivals this season include former England striker Peter Crouch, former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole and fellow Chelsea and England star Karen Carney.

They join former Arsenal and Netherlands forward Robin van Persie, recently confirmed as joining the BT Sport team which includes Rio Ferdinand, Steve McManaman, Glenn Hoddle, Rachel Brown-Finnis and Michael Owen.

In addition, channel bosses have announced a new Saturday morning football show, Early Kick Off, hosted by Jake Humphrey, Jules Breach and Robbie Savage.

Pete Oliver, managing director marketing of BT’s consumer division, said: “BT is making sport more accessible to more fans in more ways than ever this season. We’re thrilled to welcome Peter Crouch, Joe Cole and Karen Carney to the squad, as part of an exciting new weekend line up on BT Sport with great new shows.

“The launch of BT Sport Ultimate means BT is first to market with the launch of a new innovation, allowing our customers to take the sports viewing experience on mobile to a level unmatched anywhere.

“This is the latest step in our Best Connected plan, to offer our customers the best content and the best technology, through partnerships with the world’s most innovative companies.”
