AMC, the US drama channel available exclusively from BT, is to add subtitles to its programmes from “early” 2017.
The channel shows a host of major US dramas including Fear The Walking Dead and Into the Badlands but currently doesn’t offer subtitles, meaning shows are inaccessible to many viewers with hearing problems.
This omission has provoked complaints from some BT subscribers who are unable to enjoy the channel and its programmes which are included ‘free’ in the firm’s pay-TV bundles.
Although Ofcom rules require major channels to offer subtitles, AMC’s smaller audience figures means it currently falls outside of these requirements.
However the channel has now confirmed that subtitles will be introduced “early” next year and says more details will be available nearer the time.
