Channel 4 has confirmed it’ll broadcast the second series of The Returned next year.

The first series, which finished last night, was the first subtitled drama on Channel 4 for over 20 years, and attracted an average of 1.8million viewers and a 7.1% share each week.

The eight-part second series is currently in development with Haut et Court TV for Canal+, and will begin filming in early 2014 for an anticipated broadcast later in the year.

A supernatural thriller set in a small Alpine village in the shadow of a vast dam, The Returned has chronicled the lives, and in this case deaths, of the town-people’s harrowing discovery of loved ones returning from the grave.

The series is created by Fabrice Gobert based on the 2004 feature film “Les Revenants” by Robin Campillo.
